How to plan a Tunisia road trip

Tunisia is compact and made for self-driving. From Tunis you can reach the Sahel beaches (Sousse, Monastir, Mahdia) in two hours, the holy city of Kairouan and the Roman amphitheatre at El Jem in a day, and the Sahara oases of Tozeur and Douz or the island of Djerba over a longer loop. Good motorways (the A1 running south) make the distances easy, and tolls are cheap.

Use the planner above to line up your stops in order — it estimates the driving distance, time, fuel and toll cost for each leg, and suggests how many nights to spend where. Then rent one car for the whole route: no credit-card deposit, free airport or hotel delivery, and you pay on arrival.
